I’m Publishing a Children’s Book!!

You read the title right! This has been in the works for ages and I’m so excited to finally talk about it. I have (once again) collaborated with artist Crina Magalio, but not just for a cover or a map or a page break … but for a whole book!! My very first children’s book, titled I Wanna Be an Engineer, will be out in the world on November 15, 2024! Take a moment to admire the cover:

This book is very near and dear to my heart. I’ve been thinking about writing a children’s book for a very long time, but wanted to wait until I had the right idea. Last year, I was at work and the idea for this book just came to me all at once. The pieces fell into place and I couldn’t wait to start talking about it with Crina. I first brought it up to her last summer and we’ve spent many months tweaking and perfecting every page. Here’s a little more about what the book’s about:

Sally has always dreamed of being an engineer, just like her parents. But when she tries to follow in their footsteps, things don’t quite go as planned. Sally must take on new challenges and discover what it truly means to be an engineer. Featuring playful rhymes and stunning illustrations by Crina Magalio, I Wanna be an Engineer is sure to inspire children of all ages.

You may also notice that this is being written under “Julia Willow” instead of “J. L. Willow.” I wanted to make sure that I differentiated my spooky thrillers from this book and any future books I write geared to a younger audience. If you’re interested, check out my new website and sign up for that email list!

If you’re excited about I Wanna Be an Engineer, you won’t have to wait for long to get your hands on it. It’s available for preorder NOW and I will doing a book signing to celebrate! If you’re in the NJ area, I’ll be signing copies of I Wanna Be an Engineer at the following date/time:

Stangl Factory Market

50 Stangl Rd., Flemington NJ 08822

Saturday, November 30th, 2024

9am-3pm

The book was written for an elementary reading level. I wanted to incorporate some basic engineering vocabulary/concepts in a fun and engaging way, and I really think I accomplished that. I’m actively looking to do some in-classroom readings and presentations, so if you’re a teacher or know someone who might be interested, please pass my name their way 🙂

If you’re excited about I Wanna Be an Engineer, please let me know!! I’ve included so many hidden details and personal touches and I can’t wait for you to discover them as you read.

Thank you, once again, for your support. I hope you have a lovely fall!

– Julia
